Bangabandhu Satellite – 1
We
have made a tremendous progress in the field of communication technology. The
Bangabandhu Satellite – 1 is the glaring example. It is the first Bangladeshi
geostationary communication satellite. It was launched on May 11, 2018. The
project was implemented by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission
(BTRC). The Bangabandu Satellite – 1 is expected to be located at the 119.10
East Longitude geostationary slot. It is named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibur
Rahman, the father of the nation. It is
designed and manufactured by Thales Alenia Space. Its launch provider is
SpaceX. The total cost of the satellite was projected to be 248 million US
dollars. Bangabandu satellite -1 carries a total of 40 ku-band and C-band
transponders with a capacity of 1600 megahertz and a predicted life span to
exceeded 15 years. The satellite will expand ku –band coverage over all of
Bangladesh and its nearby waters including the Bay of Bengal, India, Nepal,
Bhutan, Srilanka and Indonesia. Different TV channels buy satellite to run
their task smoothly. In this case we will be able to earn foreign currencies by
selling the capacity of the satellite. It will also be able to provide internet
facilities in the Hill Tracks and Haor areas. It will also support mobile
networking system at the time of natural calamities. In a word, Bangabandhu
Satellite -1 is a blessing for us. It is a milestone in the field of our
communication and technology.
