My visit to a place of historical interest
Introduction: Man is curious (কৌতুহলী) to see the unseen (অচেনা), to know the unknown (অজানা) and to explore (আবিস্কার করা) the unexplored (অনাবিষ্কৃত). So as a human being, I also have a keen interest to see and know the historical places.
Occasion: During the last winter vacation. I got a golden opportunity (সুযোগ) to make a visit to Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট), a well-known (সুপরিচিত) historical (ঐতিহাসিক) place on the occasion (উৎসব) of the annual study tour of our school.
Khan Jahan Ali's Mazar: Bagerhat is mainly famous for the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali. Khan Jahan Ali was a great Muslim saint (ঋষি/সাধু/পবিত্র ব্যক্তি). The Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali is a one storied building. It has beautiful domes (গম্বুজ). Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali was buried (কবর দেওয়া) there. The tomb (সমাধি) is made of stones (পাথর). On the tomb there are writing in Arabic (আরবী) that he died on 25 October 1459. There is a beautiful mosque (মসজিদ) near the Mazar. A big fair (মেলা) took place beside the Mazar during my staying. Many people from different parts of the country came to visit the fair (মেলা). There is a big tank (জলাশয়) in front of (সামনে) the Mazar. There are some crocodiles (কুমির) in the tank. They come near when the Fakirs call and give them something to eat.
The Shatgambuj (ষাটগম্বুজ) Mosque: I also visited the Shatgambuj Mosque. It is a very large and beautiful building. The tourists and visitors are greatly impressed (প্রভাবিত) by this great mosque.
The Ghora (ঘোড়া) Dighi: Near the Mosque there is a big Dighi. This is called the 'Ghora Dighi' after the name of the horse (ঘোড়া). There is a saying that before digging the Dighi, a horse was made to run a certain distance and that distance was accepted as the length of the Dighi. I visited the Dighi and the nearby areas. I also came to know a lot about the social work of Khan Jahan Ali.
Conclusion: Bagerhat is really a historical place. I spent (কাটালাম) only a few hours there and enjoyed many historical and attractive things. I am really fortunate (ভাগ্যবান) to visit such a place. The memory of Bagerhat will remain evergreen (চির সবুজ) in my mind.
