Population Problem in Bangladesh
Introduction: The population of a country is a blessing (আশির্বাদ) to her. But it becomes a curse (অভিশাপ) when it grows very quickly. Bangladesh is a small country. Her population is too much (বেশি) for her area. At present (বর্তমানে) the population of our country is increasing (বৃদ্ধিপাচ্ছে) rapidly (দ্রুতগতিতে). So population problem of our country is the burning' question (বহুল আলোচিত প্রশ্ন/জ্বলন্ত সমস্যা) of the day.
Dangers of over population: Over (অতিরিক্ত) population is a great threat (হুমকি) for our country. If our population grows at a high rate (উচ্চ হারে), our country will have to face a great problem. This will affect (প্রভাবিত) the economic (অর্থনৈতিক) development (উন্নয়ন) and progress (অগ্রগতি) of the country. The country would not be able (সক্ষম) to provide (সরবরাহ করা) food, clothes, housing, educational facilities (সুযোগ-সুবিধা), medical facilities and other basic (মৌলিক) necessities of life to the excess (অতিরিক্ত) of population.
Causes of over population: There are many causes of over population in our country. Some of these are :
(i) Ignorance (অজ্ঞতা): Most of the people of our country are not of family planning. They do not know about the problem of over population. So they do not take the measures to control birth through family planning.
(ii) Superstitions (কুসংস্কার): Religions (ধর্মীয়) superstitions (কুসংস্কার) obstruct (বাঁধা দেওয়া) our people in family planning (পরিবার পরিকল্পনা) or birth control (জন্ম নিয়ন্ত্রন). They believe that God will feed their children.
(iii) Early marriage (বাল্য বিবাহ): Most of the boys and girls in the village area get married before they become matured (পরিপক্ক). This early marriage is a special cause of high rate (উচ্চ হার) of population growth (বৃদ্ধি).
(iv) Lack of female education (নারী শিক্ষার অভাব): Women constitute half of the population of our country, but more than half of them are not educated. Uneducated woman are not aware of (সচেতন) the negative (নেতিবাচক) effects (প্রভাব) of over population.
Solution: To check (সামলাইতে) the growth of over population the following measures (পদক্ষেপ) should be taken:
Firstly, the high birth rate of population has to be checked (প্রতিরোধ করা/থামানো) through (দ্বারা) the family planning. Secondly, we have to make campaign (অভিযান /প্রচারণা পরিচালনা করা) to educate mass people (গণ মানুষ). It will help them to understand the value government law (আইন). Various awareness-raising (সচেতনতা) programmes should be taken to make the people eager (আগ্রহী) to stop the high growth rate of population.
Conclusion: Population problem is, indeed (প্রকৃতপক্ষে), a great problem of our country. So, we all should play a role (ভুমিকা) to cheek the growth of population to save the country.
