A railway station
A railway station is a place where trains stop and start from. Passengers get into (প্রবেশ করা) the train and get down (নামা) from the train there. It has a platform for the passengers. In a big railway station there is a shed (ছায়া) over the platform but at a small station it is open. A railway station has its master’s office, a booking office and waiting room for men and women. There are book stalls, restaurants and stationary shops in it. A railway station is always crowded place. Passengers come and go there. People are found in a long line to buy tickets. They push one another to go ahead (এগিয়ে যাওয়া). When the train arrives, the station becomes a noisy (কোলাহল) place, but when the train whistles (বাঁশি) away, it becomes calm and quite (নীরব/প্রশান্ত).
The flagman (যে পতাকা বহন করে) moves with red and green flags. The hawkers shout, vendors move, the potters walk and the beggars beg singing religious chorus. The hawkers sell betel leaf (পান পাতা), bread, cigarettes etc. Sometimes seasonal fruits are also sold in a railway station. A railway station has some defects (অসুবিধা). Gambling parties (জুয়াড়ী) are often seen in a railway station. It is noisy and unhealthy place. The pickpockets (পকেটমারগন) gather (ভীড় করা) there. After all, a railway station plays an important role in communication (যোগাযোগ). So Government should take proper steps for the improvement (উন্নতি) of a railway station.
