Rules - (21- 40)

Rule - 21: Half, heaps, lots প্রভৃতি subject হিসেবে বসলে তা যদি singular/uncountable noun- কে নির্দেশ করে তখন verb singular হয় Plural/Countable Noun কে নির্দেশ করে তখন verb plural হয়।
(a) Half of the work -------- (do)
Ans:
(b) Half of the apples ------- (be) bad.

Rule - 22: One - third, One - fourth এর ক্ষেত্রে verb singular হয় এবং Plural Noun এর সাথে Plural verb হবে। One - third, One - fourth এর ক্ষেত্রে ভগ্নাংশ Plural হবে না, কিন্তু অন্য সকল ভগ্নাংশের ক্ষেত্রে Plural Verb হবে।
(a) One-third of the work (finish).

Rule - 23: One and a half এর পরে Plural Noun থাকলেও Verb Singular হবে। যেমন -
(a)
One and a half lemons (be) enough.

One and a half oranges (be) sufficient for me.

One and a half apples (be) required for the
boy.
Ans:
(d)
One and a half mangoes (be) sufficient for the
girl.
Ans:

One and a half bananas (be) provided to the

One and a half oranges (be) demanded by the
student.

(g) One and a half cucumbers (be) enough for the boy.
Rule - 24: The greater, The greatest part যখন area/amount/quantity - কে নির্দেশ করে তখন verb singular হয় এবং যখন সংখ্যা (Number) নির্দেশ করে তখন verb plural হয়। যেমন -

The greater part of the country (be) flooded.

Rule - 25: A Number of এর পরে Plural Noun এবং Plural verb ব্যবহৃত হয় কিন্তু The Number of এর পরে Plural Noun এবং Singular verb ব্যবহৃত হয় যেমন -

A number of students -------- (be) absent from the class.

The number of members in the meeting -------- (be) forty.

(c) A number of players (to be) playing football.

(d) A good number of students (to have) done an
excellent result.

Rule - 26: কোনো Phrase, Gerund, Infinitive যদি কোনো sentence এর Subject হিসেবে
ব্যবহৃত হয় তবে verb singular হয় যেমন -
(a)

Rule - 27: Uncountable Noun এর সাথে None of ব্যবহৃত হলে verbটি singular হবে।
যেমন -
(a) None of the jute (be) sold.

(d) None of the food (be) consumed.

Rule- 28 : Relative pronoun- এর পরের verb-টি সাধারনত Relative pronoun এর ঠিক পূর্বের Noun/pronoun অর্থ্যাৎ antecedent (পূর্ব পদ) অনুসারে বসে Relative pronoun- এর আগে যে Noun বা Pronoun বসে তাকে antecedent বলে।
(a) It is I who -------- (be) responsible for this.

Rule- 29 : Avoid, finish, prefer, like, enjoy, admit, anticipate (পূর্বে অনুমান করা/আঁচ করা), appreciate, consider, contemplate (ভাবা), delay, defer (স্থগিত করা), deny, detest (তীব্র ঘৃণা), dislike, discuss, escape (মুক্তি), excuse, fancy (স্বপ্ন দেখা), forgive, imagine, involve (জড়িত), pardon (ক্ষমা করা), postpone (স্থগিত করা), recommend (সুপারিশ করা), view to (দেখা), look forward to (সানন্দে অপেক্ষা করা), resort to (অবলম্বন), devoted to (নিবেদিত/অনুগত), addicted to (আসক্ত), be used to, get used to, be accustomed to, get accustomed to, injured to (আহত), habituated to (অভ্যাস করা), it is no use, cannot help, could not help, cannot bear, could not bear ইত্যাদির পরবর্তী verb এর সাথে ing বসে।

Rule- 30: Modal auxiliaries (can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, ought to), have to, has to, had to, cannot but, could not but, let, make, used to, nothing but, would better, would rather, would sooner, had better, had rather, had sooner, like to, am to, is to, are to, was to, were to, am going to, is going to, are going to, was going to, were going to, hear, see, behold, do, does, did, infinitive ‘to’ ইত্যাদির পরের verb টির present form বসে।

Rule – 31: যে কোন simple sentence এ For/since এর পরে সময় উল্লেখ থাকলে এবং কোন কাজ দীর্ঘ সময়/ নির্দিষ্ট সময় ধরে হওয়া বুঝালে বাক্যটি সাধারনত Present perfect continuous tense হয়। তবে, অর্থের উপর ভিত্তি করে Past perfect continuous tense /Future
perfect continuous tense ও হতে পারে।
(a) They ---------

Rule – 32: Since’ conjunction হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলে এবং since এর পূর্বের clause টি present tense (Present Indefinite or, Present perfect) Tense হলে পরের clause- টি Past Indefinite tense হয়।
(a) Three years have passed since we ---------- (pass)
the SSC exam.

Rule – 33: since এর পূর্বের clause টি past Indefinite Tense হলে পরের clause- টি Past perfect tense হয়।

Rule – 34: Before/after এর পরেই কোন verb থাকলে তার সাথে ing
যোগ হয়। তখন Before/after - preposition এর মত কাজ করে। যেমন-
(a) After ----- (read) the book, Karim will go to the field.

Rule – 35: Before এর পরের clause টি past indefinite tense এবং আগের clause টি Past perfect tense হয়। যেমন-

(c) The incident -- (take place) before we --- (arrive)
at the airport.

Rule – 36: After এর পরের clause টি past perfect tense এবং আগের clause টি Past Indefinite tense হয়। যেমন-

Rule - 37: সাধারনত ‘to’ ছাড়া অন্য সকল preposition এর পরে verb এর সাথে “ing” যোগ করতে হয়। যেমন-

Rule - 38: কোনো Sentence এ lest থাকলে, lest এর পর Sub এর পরে should/might বসে। এর পরের verb টির present form হয়।

exam.

(c) Take care of your father lest he (get) sick.

(d) Go to bed and sleep lest you (fall) sick.
