Tea Stall
In modern civilization (সভ্যতা) a tea stall is a popular name. A tea stall is a place where tea is prepared and supplied (সরবরাহ করা) to the customers. Tea is the most popular drink all over of the world. So a tea stall is a common place to all classes of people. It is naturally found in market places, at railway stations, bus stands, launch Ghats and at every turn of roads and highways. It is also found around offices, near hospitals, around mills and factories as well as educational institutions. It is furnished with a few tables, chairs or long benches. It is neither gorgeous (জাঁকালো/চমৎকার) nor luxurious (বিলাসবহুল).
It is rather an ordinary (সাধারন) shop. There is a cash counter where the owner (মালিক) or manager sits to handle the cash. Biscuits, cakes, bread, bananas, betel leaf (পান পাতা) cigarettes, etc. are sold here. One or more boys are employed here to serve tea to the customers. It opens early in the morning and closes late at (গভীর রাত) night. So people can have tea there at any time. Passengers, rickshaw-pullers, officials, labourers, passers-by (পথিক), students, political workers are the customers in a tea stall. The customers come to a tea stall for tea, gossiping (গল্প) and relaxation (অবসর-বিনোদন). Someone reads newspaper, others discuss on politics and other matters. Sometimes people raise (তোলা) a storm over a cup of tea. Some tea stall has tape recorders for the entertainment (বিনোদন) of the customers. A tea stall is an important place because it is the most common haunt (আড্ডা) and gathering place for the weary (ক্লান্ত) travelers, office assistants, labourers, rickshaw-pullers and the students. They discuss different topics. Sometimes they discuss politics in a tea stall. It is meeting place of friends. It is also called a ‘Mini Sang sad’. It is a good place of exchange (আদান প্রদান) of the news of the country. As it is visited by people of all age-groups and of all walks of life, it should be neat and clean.
