The rainy Season in Bangladesh
There are six seasons in our country. Each season consists of two months. We hear new sounds and enjoy new scenes in each season. We forget monotony of life and start our daily work anew. The rainy season is one of the six seasons. The Bengali month ‘Ashar’ and ‘Shravan’ are called the rainy season. Sometimes it begins earlier and lasts longer.
The rainy season is caused by monsoon. The south-west monsoon that blows from the Bay of Bengal over Bangladesh brings much vapor . It receives a heavy rainfall and since then rainy season occurs in Bangladesh.
During the rainy season the sky remains cloudy. Sometimes the sun is not seen. During this time it rains cats and dogs. The rainy season is dull and gloomy. The sun is not seen at all. Sometimes it rains heavily and sometimes it drizzles. None can go out without an umbrella. Water stands on roads and roads become muddy and slippery. People walk along the roads with shoes in hand and clothes folded unto knee. Birds are hardly seen to fly. Cattle keep standing on their sheds. In such a season, people have to remain indoors. They cannot move from one place to another place easily. During the rainy season the poor and day labourer suffer much. They cannot go out for work. They pass the day through sufferings. Sometimes it rains for days together. Roads become muddy. Many kinds of diseases like cholera, diarrhea , dysentery and typhoid break out. Sometimes there are floods and it washes away our crops and houses. Rivers, canals and ponds are filled water. They overflow their banks. Fields go under water.
The rainy season is surely blessing for our country. Bangladesh is an agricultural country and most of the crops dependent on the rain water. Current of rain water makes our soil fertile. If there is sufficient rain, our farmers can reap a good harvest. If it does not they can not reap good harvest. Without rain water our agriculture is lifeless. It washes away the filth and dirt from the earth’s surface. Rain water clears the atmosphere. Men can easily go from one place to another by boat. A rainy season is an important season for poets, writers, authors and intellectual persons. During this season poets can compose poems, writers can write stories. In this season some people spend the time in gossiping, playing cards, singing or hearing songs.
The rainy season is not always blessing for us all the times. In the rainy season the roads become muddy and slippery. The poor and the day laborer suffer much. They cannot go out of door for work. Cattle do not get their food properly. Various diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.
Though the rainy season has its demerits, it is blessing to the economy of our country. It helps the nature to gain a new life. It comes to different classes of people in different ways. We always welcome this season and enjoy its beauty.
