Independence Day - Paragraph
Every country has some achievements (অর্জন) that they can take in pride (গর্ব). Our Independence Day is our national event and achievement. March 26 is our Independence day. It is a red-letter day (স্মরনীয় দিন) in our national life. On this day in 1971, the independence of Bangladesh was declared (ঘোষনা করা হল) and the liberation war was started. The Pak armies fell upon us and killed us mercilessly (নির্দয়ভাবে). They burnt (পোড়াল) our houses, cottages (কুঁড়েঘর), mills, factories and so on. We also attacked the Pak armies and made them surrendered (ঘেরাও) on 16 December 1971. We fought for about 9 months. About 30 lakh people were killed. They are martyrs (শহীদ). They are immortals (অমর). 26 March is the biggest state (রাষ্ট্রীয়) festival (উৎসব). The day is celebrated (উদযাপন) every year in the country with great enthusiasm (উৎসাহ). It is a national (জাতীয়) holiday (ছুটি). The day begins with 31 gunshots (গুলি). The national flag is hoisted (উত্তোলন). Early in the morning the President and the Prime Minister on behalf of (পক্ষে) the nation place (অর্পন করা) floral (ফুলের) wreaths (মালা) at the National Mausoleum (স্মৃতিসৌধ) at Savar.
People from all walks of life also come there with rallies (সমাবেশ) and processions (মিছিল). There are several cultural programmes throughout the day highlighting (আলোকপাত) the heroic (বীরত্বপূর্ণ) struggle (সংগ্রাম) in 1971. The country also witnesses (দেখা) a smartly dressed parade (কুচকাওয়াজ) of defence (প্রতিরক্ষা) forces, border guards (সীমান্ত বাহিনী) police, ansars and the VDP (Village Defence Party) at the National Parade Square. In Bangabandhu National Stadium, school children, scouts and girl guides take part (অংশগ্রহণ করা) in various displays (প্রদর্শনী). The educational institutions also organize (আয়োজন করা) their individual programmes. Sports meets and tournaments are also organized on the day including the exciting boat race in the Buriganga River. In the evening, all major public buildings (সরকারী দালানসমুহ) are illuminated (প্রজ্জ্বলন করা) with colourful lights. Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and other socio-cultural organizations hold cultural functions. We consider (বিবেচনা করা) our Independence Day as a symbol (প্রতীক) of our determination (সংকল্প) to survive (টিকে থাকা) as an independent and self-respecting (আত্মসম্মানজনক) nation. So, the 26 March will be remembered forever (চিরতরে/চিরকাল) as Independence Day in the history of Bangladesh.
