The life of a Rickshaw Puller
A rickshaw puller is a poor day labourer who earns his livelihood (জীবিকা) by pulling rickshaw. He is a familiar (পরিচিত) figure (ব্যক্তি) in our country. Generally (সাধারনত) he lives in a slum (বস্তি) area. He carries passengers and goods (মালামাল) in his rickshaw from one place to another on payment. Very few rickshaw pullers have their own rickshaws. Usually a rickshaw puller hires (ভাড়া) a rickshaw from the owner (মালিক) on daily basis. He comes out on the roads and streets early in the morning and works with his rickshaw till late hours of night. He works in good and bad weather. Sometimes he feels tired but cannot take rest. Even he cannot take rest during heavy rainfall (বৃষ্টিপাত) or in the scorching (প্রখর) heat of the summer. He must pull rickshaw to earn the daily bread for himself and for his family. Despite (সত্ত্বেও) working very hard a rickshaw puller earns little. He cannot save money. So when he sick, he and his family falls into trouble (সমস্যা). Sometimes, his income is less than the usual (সচরাচর). Then he faces more difficulties in maintaining his family. He has to live from hand to mouth (দিনে এনে দিনে খাওয়া). He cannot provide food, education and medicine to his family properly. Even they have to starve (না খেয়ে থাকা) sometimes. In spite of all these odd (খারাপ/বিরুপ) conditions, a rickshaw puller feels proud to live on his fair earnings from his sweat (ঘাম). He finds great pleasure to serve (সেবা করা) people at a minimum (সবচেয়ে কম) cost. His service (কাজ/সেবা) is really very great. He is friend to all. So we should show due respect to a rickshaw puller.
