Pahela Baishakh- Paragraph
Bangladesh is a land of various cultures. A lot of festivals are held in this country around the year. Among these festivals, 'Pahela Baishakh' is the most prominent festival. It is the day of new hope and inspiration to the people of Bangladesh. It is celebrated on the first day of Bengali New Year. It is very significant for the culture and tradition of Bangladesh. Pahela Baishakh has been being observed in our country for about 450 years as traditional culture. The third Mughal emperor (সম্রাট), Akbar was the first to introduce this custom (রীতি) in our country.
Then, on that day, the tenants (প্রজা/ভাড়াটিয়া) were invited to the house of the landlord (জমিদার) and they used to pay (পরিশোধ করা) their rents there. Today also this day is being observed with great enthusiasm (উদ্দীপনা). The day is celebrated with traditional festivities across the country. It is a public (সরকারী) holiday. Traders and shopkeepers open fresh account books (Hal Khata) and offer sweets to their customers. Different cultural organizations arrange different programs of the day starting at Ramna Botomul with the sun rise. Chayanot organization arranges the program. People wearing traditional dresses attend it. The artist starts with the song Eshu-he-Boishakh. To welcome the New Year with people of all walks of life, join the programme wearing traditional dresses. The students and teachers of fine Arts of Dhaka University bring out wonderful precessions wearing masks to welcome the New Year at 9 am. It is called Mongol Shovajatra. Bangladesh radio and Bangladesh television telecast official programs on the day. The newspaper also publishes special supplements. various types of fairs and exhibitions (প্রদর্শ)নী are held throughout the country. People go to the Mela to buy traditional goods and tools. They enjoy the day and wish one another ‘Shuvo Noboborsho.’ On this day, we try to forget the sorrowful (দুঃখজনক) events, distress, and despondency (হতাশা) of the previous year and welcome the New Year together in a zealous (প্রবল উদ্দীপনার সাথে) mood dreaming of a better future. We all stand on a common ground beyond any political belief (বিশ্বাস). Pohela Boishakh is the manifestation (প্রকাশ) of our cultural heritage.
