Correspondent, 24 January, Savar bus stand: Yesterday at
around 1.30 pm. a tragic road accident took place near Savar bus stand. Four
people were killed and 12 others injured when a passenger bus fell into a
roadside ditch on Dhaka-Arihca highway at Savar. Realizing the imminent danger
the driver of the ill fated bus jumped out of the window and fled away from the
spot. A case has been filled in the local police station.
Police and locals said that Dhaka bound
bus from Mirzapur fell into the ditch at Savar at about 1.30 pm. When its driver lost control, killing three
passengers on the spot. One of the injured succumbed of death on his ay to the
hospital. On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured
with the help of local people. The passengers informed that from the very
beginning the driver was driving roughly. Because of his reckless driving he
was about to occur an accident just about ten minutes back. When they reached
Savar bus stand, the driver tried to overtake a sand laden truck. But
unfortunately he lost his control and fell into nearby ditch. Three of the dead
bodies were identified as Ferdous, 3 Zakir Hossain, 32, Sania Begum, 35. The
identity of the other could not be known. Of the injured, 8 were admitted to
Savar Health Complex while four to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Condition of
four of the injured was stated to be critical, hospital source Said.
On an average road accidents are
claiming eight lives every day in our country. The reckless driving of the
drivers is largely responsible for their road mishaps or accidents. Traffic
rules should be applied and followed strictly to save the valuable lives from
road accidents.
