The Greedy Dog
Once there was a dog. He was very hungry. He wandered (ঘুরে বেড়ানো) door to door. He stole a piece of bone from a butcher’s (কসাই) shop and ran away with it. He wanted to eat it alone. So he moved away from there. On the way, there was the river. He wanted to cross the river. When he was passing over the bridge, he saw his own image (প্রতিচ্ছবি) in the water.
He thought it must be another dog with another piece of meat in its mouth. He became easily tempted (প্রলুব্ধ) to see it. He wished to have the shadow of the meat and jumped upon his own shadow with a loud bark (ঘেউ ঘেউ করা). As soon as he opened his mouth, the piece of meat dropped (পড়ে যাওয়া) from his mouth and was taken away by the current (স্রোত) of the stream. Thus the greedy dog lost his own piece of meat.
Moral: Greed leads to sin and sin to death.
