A parable is an allegorical story of human characters which teachers a moral or religious lesson. In a parable the story is developed for its own sake, but only in so far as it reinforces a moral which is always explicit.
The most famous parables in Western literature are those response of the human father to the son sho returns after a period of wasteful living is an allegory of the love of god for the repentant sinner. Good Samaritan is also a famous Example of parable.
