Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse effect means the permanent (স্থায়ী) rise of temperature in the atmosphere (বায়ুমন্ডল) around the world. There are many reasons for greenhouse effect. Human activities are responsible for almost (প্রায়) all of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The huge (বিশাল/বড়/প্রচুর) emitting (নির্গমন of carbon di-oxide gas is primarily (প্রাথমিকভাবে) responsible for this. Again, deforestation (বন উজাড়) around the world adds to the problem. Less trees and more carbon di-oxide are making our globe (বিশ্ব) hotter day by day. Burning fossil (জ্বালানী) fuels is also responsible for greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effect causes natural imbalance (ভারসাম ্যহীনতা).
It is dangerous for living creature on earth. Due to the increased amount of heat around the world, the polar (মেরু) ice-caps have already started melting. The melting of the big ice-caps will obviously lead to the rise of the sea-level which in turn will cause the sea water coming into the rivers. When the river water becomes salty (লবনাক্ত) the farmland (কৃষিজ জমি) around will lose its fertility (উর্বরতা). Man's ability to grow crops will decrease and there will be a crisis (সংকট) of food. Besides, the lower parts of the world including the coastal (উপকুলীয়) areas of Bangladesh may one day go under water. When mid-way through the 21st century the world temperature will permanently rise by 40C a lot of ice will turn into water and man will lose a huge farmland area and residential area. At present the greenhouse effect has become a matter of great concern for the world. To prevent global warming we need to take immediate steps before it is too late. We should plant more trees as trees absorb (শোষণ) carbondioxide which is the main cause of greenhouse effect. Worldwide (বিশ্বব্যাপী) tree plantation programme should be strengthened (শক্তিশালী). We must not burn and destroy forestland. Old vehicles must not be allowed to ply (চলাচল) on the roads. The most important thing is to raise public awareness (সচেতনতা) in this regard. The sources of greenhouse gases such as carbondioxide and carbonmonoxide should be brought under control.
