Taking
bribes becomes a usual matter
Abdur
Rahim, 14th October, Uttara, Dhaka:
Taking bribes from the public in the government offices has become to say a
tradition now-a-days. It is reported that the govt. Officers don’t release a file
from his table if he isn’t given the bribes. Due to this illegal practice our
development programme is sometimes hampered. It is realty very alarming for us
that the investment in some sectors is decreasing due to this corruption.
People in our country
who need to go to the govt, offices are now afraid of the red tapism. In most
of cases they have to face problems because of the slow procedures and willing
idleness of the govt officers. This is why they have taken it as a usual matter
to give some illegal benefits to the govt, officers to get their works done
quickly. Most of the govt. officers are taking bribes to give their clients
some extra favour. The last caretaker govt. upheld the identity of some high
ranked officers in the govt. offices. We can not say that they are taking
bribes for poverty as most of them are moneyed. Talking to Mr. Rahman I came to
know that he had to pay one lakh taka to pas the plan of his new building by
RAJUK authority. It has become so serious in the income tax, Vat, export and
import sectors that no file is signed without taking bribes. A statistics by
the TIB says that about 89% of the govt. offices have become very much
corrupted where-activities are done by giving and taking bribes. Because of
this bad practice the name of our country one of the top of the world’s most
corrupted countries.
Moral degradation, the
existing social economic set up and greed for lucre are at the root of this
practice. If we have patriotism, honesty in our works we can stop taking and
giving bribes. The govt, should take more departmental actions against those
who are involved in taking bribes.
